Easter homework

  • Remember you have a composition to hand in (see post below). Use this template.
  • Catch up on your blogwork. If you can't remember what is due, check out the label "blogwork" on Our Own Blog. One of the tasks under the label "blogwork" is related to the book club. Some of you have read a lot of books from our class library. However, I only have one review from most of you. Please write at least another book review and post it on your blog, following the directions in the post.

  • Grammar Review:Here's a compilation of all the English Grammar in Use units that cover the grammar points we've worked with in the past two files.

Suggestions for those of you who have already been doing the units throughout the course:

 - Do the additional exercises that go with each of the units, starting on page 302.
 - Do some extra work on phrasal verbs: units 136 to 145.
 - Revise Appendixes 1-7 (pp 292-300). This will be particularly useful to clarify fuzzy areas.
 - If you didn't do the Christmas homework on prepositions, you'll probably still be having lots of problems with them. Remember: 119-136. By the end of the year, nearly all of this book will have been covered.

Homework: Our Own Blog

Well, I'm so amazed by what you have achieved in just one day of blogging! I haven't had time to check out all the blog posts, yet. But you can be sure that I will, as soon as I have the time: they're really awesome!

As I told you yesterday in class, I need you to label your posts. Remember to use just the existing labels. However, we may change them once we get this thing going. For the moment, I'll be checking the language of those posts that already have a label. You can tell that your post has been checked because the "reaction" "Checked by the teacher" has been ticked (you can read a number 1, next to it). Notice that the mistakes are highlighted, sometimes they have been crossed out, and my suggestions for improvements are in CAPITAL LETTERS.

Now it's your turn to edit your post to make it look good for the rest of your classmates to see!

VERY IMPORTANT: As of next week, your blog will become "private", that is, only the authors -you all- will be able to read it. Therefore, those students who couldn't make it to class yesterday need to do their homework as  explained in the handout (see previous post). I'll keep checking my mail for your gmail addresses so I can send you your invitations.

Click here to log on Our Own Blog. And remember, if you would like to change the name, suggest a new one by making a post. The rest of the people should make comments or tick reactions.

Homework for Wednesday

Hello everybody! Long time no see!

As I told you on the last day of our written tests, we're going to work on a students' blog. On this blog, all of you will be able to post things you'd like to share with the class. And I'll give you homework to publish, too.

To begin with, as you could read in the handout I gave you, I need you all to create a gmail account -unless you already have one-. You need to do this by tomorrow -that is, before the class. When you have your gmail account, send it to me (ingles.eoimolina@gmail.com). I'll give you permission to be a blog author.

We'll start blogging tomorrow in class. Please, make sure you bring the handout (Blog project) to class. And, very importantly: I'd like you to click on one of the links in the left column of this blog and find something interesting you would like to share. Write down on a piece of paper why you recommend the people in the class to check it out. Don't forget the route to get to that link!

Homework for Monday

- Writing: An informal letter. (Txtbk p.49): this is a thank you letter to an imaginary (or real) friend of yours from an English-speaking country, that you spent some time with. Write a letter similar to the one in the book, where you recall some of the nice experiences you lived there. To finish your letter, ask your friend to come and visit you, say when would be the best time to do so and what sort of activities you could do here.

I would appreciate it if you used this template to do your writing. If you can't print it out, copy the heading.

Check with the "Writing Skills" column on the left for some useful tips to improve your writing. While doing so, you'll be practising your reading ;)
